Need help setting up a home theater system?

I have a DVD player that only has analog audio outputs and 1 digital output. However I just got a receiver/subwoofer and speaker system as a gift and it does not have a digital input port. It has six ports (one for each speaker (5) and one for subwoofer). How can I connect from digital out (DVD) to 6 Analog In (receiver)??

Need help setting up a home theater system?opera ticket

if your dvd player has discrete channel analog outputs (that is, analog outputs for each fl, center, fr, sr, sl and sub), you may be able to put those to the multi-channel input of your reciever. i just have never seen a dvd player with that kind of connections, but i did use such a setup for my computer which had a 6-channel sound card and internal digital audio processing.

Need help setting up a home theater system?pacific theater opera theater

unfourtanetly you cannot... to get true dolby sound out of it it would have to be hooked in to a digital coax or a fiber optic.. your reciever does not have a decoder build into it so youd need a dvd player that decodes and outputs the correct analog channels for you to recieve the correct sounds..

When did the first drive-in theater open?

The drive-in theater was the creation of Camden, New Jersey, chemical company magnate Richard M. Hollingshead, Jr., whose family owned and operated the R.M. Hollingshead Corporation chemical plant in Camden. In 1932, Hollingshead conducted outdoor theater tests in his driveway at 212 Thomas Avenue in Camden. After nailing a screen to trees in his backyard, he set a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of his car and put a radio behind the screen, testing different sound levels with his car windows down and up. Blocks under vehicles in the driveway enabled him to determine the size and spacing of ramps so all automobiles could have a clear view of the screen. Following these experiments, he applied August 6, 1932 for a patent of his invention, and he was given patent number 1,909,537 on May 16, 1933. (Seventeen years later, that patent was declared invalid by the Delaware District Court.)

Hollingshead's drive-in opened in New Jersey June 6, 1933 on Admiral Wilson Boulevard at the Airport Circle in Pennsauken, a short distance from Cooper River Park. It only operated for three years, but during that time the concept caught on in other states. The April 15. 1934, opening of Shankweiler's Auto Park in Orefield, Pennsylvania, was followed by Galveston's Drive-In Short Reel Theater (July 5, 1934), the Pico in Los Angeles (September 9, 1934) and the Weymouth Drive-In Theatre in Weymouth, Massachusetts (May 6, 1936). In 1937, three more opened in Ohio, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with another twelve during 1938 and 1939 in California, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Texas and Virginia.

The First Drive-In Theater 1933

The date is May 19, 1933 Richard H. along with 3 other investors, Willie Warren Smith, Edward Ellis and Oliver Willets, start construction. After three weeks and $30,000 the first Drive-In Theater opens on Tuesday June 6, 1933. On Crescent Boulevard, Camden New Jersey. By the name of "Drive-In Theatre" with admission price of 25 cents for the car, 25 cents per person and no car to pay more that $1.00 total.

If you are sitting in a theater, What are you eating and drinking?

Half a bucket of popcorn before the movie starts, goobers, and a pepsi that i smuggled in. And anything else i have to snack on in my purse!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spree's and H2O!
I so rarely go to the theater anymore. That's so 90's and before. DVD's fo' life!!!

Funny, how folks complain about the price of snacks (high!) what about the movie? You young kids are getting ripped off big time. DVD comes out in 3 to 6 months! Rent it, dawg!
Large popcorn and coke light.
Buttered popcorn, provided it is freshly popped and REAL butter, and a Dr. Pepper
I like the pretzel bits with cheese, popcorn, and/or cherry coke!
a huge tub of popcorn (that no, sorry, you can't have any) and a diet coke... yes, seemingly a contradiction isn't it?

but i love my popcorn.
chocolate treats and pop
A 20 oz soda i smuggled in and maybe some popcorn
nothing, I won't pay 15 bucks for a soda and popcorn
I love snow caps and chocolate covered peanuts. At the cinema in my town, I get a cherry slushie.
I eat and drink nothing in theaters usually. If I go to a movie near mealtime, I visit a nearby restaurant before the movie. I live in SF where some "repertory theaters" allow one to bring in food and drinks. Some of my pals bring beer and sandwiches, but they soon spend more time in the restroom than watching the movie. I wait until after a movie to drink beer.
The typical popcorn and coke. Sometimes though I eat those chocolate covered raisins. Those are sooo good!
I don't usually pay for it toooo expensive, but if i did i'd have sweet popcorn and minstrels (mixed), and coke
sour patch kids ( sooooooooooooo gooooooooddddddddd!!!) and a coke ice
I usually wait for the DVD, but when I do go to the movies.....popcorn, goobers %26amp; junior mints :)

No you can repare it just send it to me i will trash it for you.

no just kidding. the problem is mot as big as you may think there are two possibilities, you either need to change a fuse that is used as a security to protect the mother board if you wonna call as that.

Or you may have to change the transformator, also known as power converteer. In bothe cases it shouldn't cost you a lot of mony.

Ever been to a drive in theater? Where and what did you see?

We're one of the lucky communities to still have a drive-in theater here at the edge of Lewisburg, Tennessee. We go often and it's good, clean family fun. There's a large grassy area between the parking lot and the screen and all the children run and play and fall asleep on blankets when they get sleepy.

What is the best (close to) theater quality DV camera out there?

I'm an amature movie maker and I was wondering which one I should buy. I heard both JVC (been hearing more about this one though) And Sony were good. My budget is $4000 but I will go over if there is some amazing difference. Won't go anywhere over $6000 though cuz then it's ridiculous! Any suggestions?

What is the best (close to) theater quality DV camera out there?performing arts opera theater

SONY - HDR-FX1 - $3700

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHO...
From what I have read the Panasonic AG-DVX100B can produce theater like quality (may not HDef/ IMAX but good enough for TV); the rest depends on getting skilled with the equipment/lighting
Sorry to disappoint, but there arent any affordable cams that you could buy to get close to theater quality. The best you can get is HD right now, but then again, it depends on your skill and budget. Well you said you have $4000-$6000 right now, so budget isnt too big of a deal for you. But how much experience do you have? If you're just starting out, get a cheap cam, preferably $1000-$2000. This way, you have money for other supplies (mics, lights, lenses, etc.) and you have money to upgrade later. If you are pretty experienced, then get an HD cam, Id say go for the HVX200. It has variable frame rates and records in DVCPRO HD (100mbits/s vs. 25 mbits/s) , and is less than $6000, or around that range. However, Canon's XH A1 is great as well, and for around $4000, fits your price range, while leaving money for extras. Also, remember that to edit HDV or DVCPRO HD you need the software that supports it (no, iMovie's not gonna cut it, to those people out there who are thinking this), and depending on how good your computer is, you might need to upgrade it as well, adding in at least another $1000. So basically, if you are starting out, and you dont have anything right now, just get a cheap SD cam to start out with so you can upgrade later. If you are experienced, then get a nice HD cam that you will be able to use for a while (and a computer and software, if necessary, in both cases). Hope this helps!

How many channels should a home theater system have? i see some with 5.1 and some with 7.1, what

5.1 is standard right now for a typical home theater set up. You can upgrade easily to 6.1 and 7.1, but there are only a handful of movies that even have the ability to do these higher formats. 6.1 means you have a rear center speaker (which I heard is pointless, since the human ear sometimes can't differentiate the front and rear center channels. I have a 7.1 and a receiver that has Pro Logic IIx and THX Select. It sounds really good and the intensity of my movies and videogames is night and day to just stereo sound. The Pro Logic IIx turns a 5.1 signal into a simulated 7.1 by the way, so it isn't true 7.1, but it still gets the job done. Go to a few audio places and ask for some demos, never hurts to ask! Good luck!

Stick with 5.1 for the simple fact that most movies aren't even available in 7.1. If you have a good system, the 5.1 will be fine.

I would recommend just going with the 5.1 system. When you start getting into the 6.1 and 7.1 and beyond systems, it starts getting more spendy and more complicated.

A good 5.1 system will give you a superb surround sound experience without all of the positioning of 7 or 8 speakers. My preference is getting a good 5.1 system and adding an additional powered subwoofer for even more reinforcement and effortlessness in the dynamics and tactile force. Two subs also balance out the dead spots of flat bass in a room.

a home theater can be 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, 7.1 and 11.1 the first number is the number of speakers and the ".1." represents a subwoofer. The higher the number, the greater ther detail. So 11.1 is the best %26lt;11.1 is THX standard%26gt;
I've got a 5.1 system, and it's wonderful. It all depends upon two limiting factors.

1-Room size

2-Amount of cash you can spend on it.

If your room is small-to-medium-sized, you'll probably want a 5.1 system because of the space limitations...

Cash-wise, mine cost around $800, so you'll want to shop around in any event...

Also, what kind of TV do you have? An older one might not have the correct amount of connections...

i have a 7.1 but only use it as a 6.1. and i must say that in movies it makes little differnce. but when i play playstation, its awesome. especially madden. sounds like your on the feild.

Websites though arent always the way to go, you have your delivery costs, which could be as much as the furniture itself, try going to your local shopping district and go to places such as freedom and natuzzi, there are some outlets in Australia which specialise in Home Theatre and furniture, Harvey Norman will have some good furniture available aswell.

I hope this helped answer your question.

Due to the open atmosphere and a very large audience it was very difficult for the audience to hear the characters speak clearly. To overcome this barrier, 50 people stared speaking at the same time. This group of people was called The Chorus.

The first function of the chorus was as narrator (telling stories, providing information).

Other functions of the chorus were to

? Bridge the gap between the audience and the players and to intensify the emotion.

? Maintain a sense of ceremony and ritual

? Establish a lyric mood through rhythmic chanting and dance

? Reinforce the passions of the dramatic action

yes i used to do that all the time and I don't see any harm in doing it!
Stop trying to justify your law breaking with "they charge too much".
I used to when I was a teen, it was rebellious and made me feel like I was "stickin it to the man"...

I grew up however, and now I'm not so concerned with being cool and bending the rules. I have bills to pay.

Love,

Snag
I haven't done that in years...however if it is a big megatheatre it won't really affect them...if it is a small theatre (and there are few of these left) it will hurt their business...
i do it sometimes.
Absolutely not, that's theft. I hope you get caught and banned from the theater. It's because of people like you, and people who pirate movies %26amp; music that these things are so expensive for the rest of us who are honest.
i do it
i have once. but mostly because i fell asleep during the first movie and was mad that i wasted my money. the first movie was the Bourne Supremecy, and the second was Alien Vs Predator. i made it all the way through that one.
lol duhh...its called theater-hopping.....i did it a lot.
its wrong but hell if u get away with it, have fun!

i dont but one of my coworkers does
ive done something similar to that. a couple of days ago i went to go see License to Wed but we were thrity minutes early and Transformers was playing in the next room. so we went in and watched in for about 15 minutes. Yes, there is something wrong with that, but I think that it is the movie theater's fault. They should not charge 7 or 8 dollars for a movie, and there should be more security, not that guy taking you tickets that is about to fall asleep.
once but it was my brothers idea wat happenz if u get caught
i always movie hop. Yesterday i watched three movies for the price of one.
No...
I've never done it, but I have a friend who keeps bugging me to do so. I'm pretty scared... what if I get caught?!
No I don't--. that's stealing!
No, the thought has crossed my mind a few times. But, I don't think I would ever do it. Back in the day we could sit in the movie theater all day for one price of admission.
lol never done it
i do it too...=]
ya ther is somtin worng wit it ethical values n wat not but....shhhh i do it too dont tell ne 1
Of course not, that would be stupid

3 thumbs down and 1 up, wow, America really is corrupted
yeah i have a couple of times, but i rarely go to the movies otherwise i'd do it more
no if i wanted to see that movie i would have went to see that one instead
I've done it a few times, but I don't make a habit of it. Haven't done it since my son was born, he's 5 now; don't want to set a bad example.

I do, For some reason the popcorn and butter taste extra yummy at the movies. And I don't go to the movies that often so of course I splurge.
yeah i buy that big tub of popcorn! and yeah i put the butter on it!! my dad cant stand when i do that but i love it too much too pass up. you can't go see a movie without the popcorn, its just not right
no, i dont like salty popcorn, i only like the sweet one, but usually teatres dont have that
We never buy movie popcorn. Too expensive, too much salt, and that stuff they pour on top of it is NOT butter.
Good grief, yes...that is the best popcorn ever... I always get a large drink too, so I am busting to pee by the end of the movie.
There's no sense in buying the movie popcorn if you don't get that wonderful butter all over it! :) I only do it a couple times a year, so I splurge on calories. :)
No way. The stuff they poor on top is NOT butter, it's an artificial flavoring.
Nope normally don't get the popcorn. It sticks in my throat and is too darn expensive.
oh! yes
I LOVE getting popcorn at the movies. And Heck YES I'll take that extra butter!

But I always sneak in my bottle of Diet Coke in my purse.
Why would I pay 10 bucks for like 10 pieces of popcorn?
Always and no, too much butter makes me sick.
no i buy drinks or milkshakes or something
I usually buy nachos, but when I do get popcorn, I do get extra "butter." And then I regret it because the container always leaks and my pants get butter stains.
No way. I dont splurge on the calories i bring stuff with me.
no i get a drink. and if i get popcorn i get it without the butter. the butter is gross and tastes like diabetes.

oh and candy is okay but i share it with someone.
Nope because i am not a hog

yes, my stomach is bigger than my hungriness and desire.
I got popcorn only once with extra butter, it made me so sick I barfed for a whole day so no extra butter for me EVER again! LOL!
No, I don't. I can't stand the smell of popcorn. It tastes alright but that smell...
Yes, we always go for the extra butter.

Hey, can anyone suggest any Dream Theater songs/albums?

I've heard a lot of good stuff about this band, and I like the fact its prog-rock, and has simlarities to my favourite band, Muse.

Can anyone tell me what their best album is or their best songs?

Hey, can anyone suggest any Dream Theater songs/albums?comedy club

Dream Theater's music is very conceptual. Even if the album it appears on isn't intended as a concept, the music itself is usually thematic, and presents a certain idea or ideas to the listener, and the lyrics usually tie everything together. They will often cross-reference their own songs, also, continuing a previously introduced idea.

'Images and Words' is probably a great place to start. It's still my favorite album of theirs, although it was also my introduction to them, so there's some sentimental value there, too.

'Scenes From A Memory' is widely viewed as their masterpiece. It's a concept album that has become the measuring stick for their other albums. It really is fantastic.

A lot of fans didn't like 'Train of Thought', claiming it was too heavy. That was one of the things I *did* like about it. "In The Name Of God" is not only one of my favorite songs from them, but one of my favorites from anyone, ever.

Napster has a site where you can stream and listen to anything they sell for free, with no obligation. You don't even need to sign up to be a member. I've linked below Dream Theater's music. Give it a listen.

I was in nose bleed section.....but brother works there and moved me to the pit area....saw everything!!!!
Yes that is a good view. I have seen concerts and comedians at the Dodge Theatre and there really are no bad seats. Have fun!
yes, several times and I agree, there is not a bad seat in there. So anywhere (even the balcony) are decent seats.
you'll be good. we saw elmo live there and payed for front row seats when the view was just as good everywhere else in the theatre. hope you enjoy the show
Behind the pit is a great place to sit, I've been in the pit...almost too close as you see things you really don't want to see, like SPIT!

If you were cleaning a movie theater...?

And found $10, would you keep it or put it in lost or found? That happened to me today and I put it in lost and found...darn my guilty conscience, lol

If you were cleaning a movie theater...?getting late

Personally I would have kept it but Karma goes a long way! If you believe in eternal balance your gesture will go a long way. If your a quick fix person keeping the money would have helped u short-term but would catch up with u in the long run..

If you were cleaning a movie theater...?regal theater opera theater

at least you have a clear conscience. good decision!
I would put it in the lost and found. because i would feel guilty if I didnt!!
well i would if it was say more then 10

cause say that ten was for dinner or something like you really needed it .

then again it could be an extra ten some random girl with rich parents who gave it to her so she had a bit more

lol

=P
If I were cleaning a movie theater and found $10, my first impulse would be to want to keep it......because I must really need it if I'm cleaning a movie theater.

But if a customer returned complaining that he'd lost $10 while inside the theater, I'd feel obliged to return it....since he must need it as badly as I.
hahaha i would have kept it
i'd keep it %26amp; maybe think about it for a 10th of a second
I would put it in lost and found and make sure my boss knew I did it, so the customer doesn't come back and say it was $20. It is hard to be honest. When I was a cage cashier in Las Vegas a man tipped me $100 instead of $20 and I asked him if that is what he wanted and he told me he couldn't tip that much but all the people I worked with were saying I should have let the man leave the 100 instead of the 20. Honesty is always best.
keep it!! lost and found? 10 bucks? more than lkely, anyone who spent close to 30 or more to enjoy a movie etc isnt going to come back thinking theyre going to find ten bucks on a dirty sticky movie theater floor.
yeah you should've kept it. it would've been ok to keep that 10.
I did that the other day! Well, I wasn't cleaning a cinema, but I was at a school fair with my friends and I found a $10 note in the grass. We had a huge discussion about what to do with it: keep it for myself, spend it, share it with my friends, give it to a teacher, or give it to one of the charity stalls that had been set up around the school.

In the end, I decided to give it to charity. I mean, they probably needed it more than I and my friends would, and a teacher would probably either keep it as well or hand it into the school money thing and it would go towards making the school better.

I wish I'd kept it, because now I'm broke lol.
i would keep it. i found $30 at work last weekend, and kept it
just anybody can go to the lost and found and take it. Why would you do something dumb like that not calling you dumb but it was a dumb thing to do
i used to work at a movie theater and we were allowed to keep any money we found, as long as it wasnt in a wallet or unless someone came back and reported it missing.

once i found $63 in the bathroom :D
I used to do that, actually. I was just like the carnies at the state fair. You lost it, its mine.
At least your honest!

I would've kept it! LOL
lol, I didn't even know lost and founds were at movie theaters...Well, I would've kept it.
i would keep it..
I would keep it, wth, somebody in lost and found has it now, i mean if i actually saw it fall out of someones pocket i would give it back with out thinking, but i there was no one there and i was just cleaning, i would keep it.
I gotta say, $10 I would probably keep... Anything like above $100, that's when I would turn it in... It is nice to know that there are people like you out there though... Thanks for being so honest, it shows a lot about your character... And if you believe in karma, I'm sure good things are coming your way...

(Like a star...) ; )
I'd keep it. I mean if it was a wallet/purse I'd put it in the lost and found. Someone else definitely slipped it in their pocket. Money doesn't have a name on it.
you should have kept it!

its not like they were going to come back

for it

and it didnt have a name ;D

you should have kept it
I think the 'Lost and found' has it's place but when it comes to cash I would have to keep it because how can you identify your $10.00 bill unless you wrote your name on it? What is to stop anyone from going in to claim the loss of any size after every movie? On top of that what happens to the money if no one claims it in 30, 60, 90 days? My bet is the manager will pocket the cash or not even think about person that lost it or you the finder.

Next time keep the cash.

What was the etiquette in elizabethan theater?

There wasn't much etiquette in the Elizabethan theatres. The theatres and their plays were made for and directed towards the common masses. Few upper-class aristocrats went to them. Shakespeare's plays were very popular among the rowdy working-class.

yes but only to see the commitments play..... not a proper theater show
Not much. I get intimidated if the actors look at me. I didn't do anything, honest. Television is much safer.

But I would like to see more Shakespeare and also Gilbert %26amp; Sullivan and some modern plays. Just stop looking back at me, okay?
Yes, twice, once in Jr. High, Romeo and Juliette, and once in High School, it was called 'a flea in her ear' British comedy, I think, can't remember the whole plot but I do remember it was funny, the sets were great and the actors were the fastest quick change artists I have ever seen!!! It was a good experience and hope to do it again some day

What is the official announce of theater intermission?

What usually they say before the intermission, just to make sure.

What is the official announce of theater intermission?ms stress

Usually it will say in the program if there is an intermission (and the length). Most of the time (unless you know the show well) you won't know WHEN intermission is until you get there. Some plays and musicals have it written in the lyrics, though. Such as "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".

Bandleader:

Well they're off and racin', runin' now

The sh** has hit the fan.

He caught that sheriff dead to rights

That meddlin' Watchdog Man

Well, now we leave the Chicken Ranch

What is the official announce of theater intermission?home theater system opera theater

There is no announcement. The play has an intermission or it does not. It depends upon the structure of the play. You will know when the curtain comes down and the house lites go up that it is the intermission.

.
intermission is a break when it starts to get more interesting but you would have to stay there to find out.
Normally they say at the beginning 'There will be a short interval of 20 minutes' or they just say 'the bar is now open'

Being afraid of lawsuits = Poor movie theater etiquette?

At a recent showing of Spidey 3 there were several people chatting on their cell phones and at least 2 different couples with crying babies who either refused to take the kid outside or kept walking in and out each time the kid started to cry. I found this to be a poor movie going experience, when I complained to the manager I was told they did not have a policy to remove these people cause they were afraid of being sued. Is this what we have become? So afraid of lawsuits that common etiquette is out the window?

Being afraid of lawsuits = Poor movie theater etiquette?binoculars

Yes, unfortunately, in most cases and places.

As a former private security guard, I'll let you know that we always had to balance the possiblity of a lawsuit versus our responsiblity to maintain a peaceful shopping atmosphere. Yes, that's right - mall security guard.

Everything revolved around the possiblity of a lawsuit, not the law as written. Security is not the police. Security is just like management. In places without a security detail, the manager of the location plays the role and calls the shots.

Being afraid of lawsuits = Poor movie theater etiquette?violin opera theater

well they are afraid of being seud-- then you should sue them-- for not providing a good movie exprience :)
When I'm president, all theatres will be surrounded with Faraday cages to block cell phone signals, people with babies will be seated in sound-proof Plexiglass cages, and people who are talking loud enough to be heard more than six inches away will be repeatedly tasered.

Also, anyone who files a suit over any of these measures will be sent to Gitmo for a period of no less than ten years.
That is ridiculous. Who would win a lawsuit like that?

I never bring my baby to the movies.

People have lost the ability to practice common courtesy, apparently.
you should have at least got a free movie pass or something. I mean, if the people escorted out could sue, then so could the people who had a bad movie experience, right? Damn lawsuit-friendly country! This is not how I want my tax money spent!
maybe they arrived late and missed the "silence is golden" clip.

Did you at least get free movie passes? Next time go to another theater that's not so ghetto.
Sad, but true. That is the world today. People will sue over ANYTHING and EVERYTHING (most are insanely ridiculous things too) just to try and wring money out of someone. It is pretty sad that our world has become what it is because of most people.

Most people could care less about anyone else besides themselves either. So no matter what is going on that someone else finds rude of offensive, that said person would probably care less since they aren't the ones being annoyed by it. The world is a very self centered place. Way to many rude and inconsiderate people.
Maybe that's why so many people are now waiting for movies in the movie theaters to come out on DVD. I'd had many ,many movies ruined by either people on thier stupid cell/mobile phones or playing with them before or during the movie. The same thing for babies too but not as much as phones.

Our theater has a policy saying that they kick out anyone they find text messaging or on the phone , no refund given, But I hardly ever see it action.

I do like what a movie theater chain in Colorado came up recenty. They give a patron a special device .If they see someone on the phone, crying babies etc.. they push a button or two and managenemt takes care of the problem. and the person with the device does'nt miss any part of the movie too!

Now if only they had that device nationwide, movie patrons might be little bit more happier at the movies. The only downside is some people think it's like "big brother" at the movies. I think there was story about this on MSN or someplace else online. I cannot recall where I saw but I know it was recent.

Rhino will no longer be releasing MST3k DVD's!!! It's an excellent thing because their DVD sets for the show were God awful.

Even better news about the show: we may very possibly be getting more DVD's. The show's license earlier this year switched from Rhino to Shout! Factory who will now be handling all DVD releases of MST3k; the first of which will ideally be coming mid-year.

How Shout! Factory will handle their DVD releases of the show is not confirmed, but I'm hopeful that they'll go through all the work of releasing season by season DVD's.

Until then, check out Rifftrax [http://www.rifftrax.com/] for MST3k style audio comentaries of movies like Star Trek Generations, Jurassic Park, The Bourne Ultimatum, etc. I also recommend searching Amazon.com for the Film Crew releases for similar hilarity. Imax and 3d movies are completely different things. Imax are just HUGE movie theaters that sometimes show 3d movies, 3d movies themselves are alot of work and have to be filmed seperatly and in different ways then a normal movie would, so not really 3d spiderman, but spiderman on a HUGE screen will be worth going to the Imax showing alone.

The model number for your A/V receiver (kenwood vr335) doesn't match anything I can find on the internet.

The VR335 does match a Samsung DVD/VHS player.

My advice is to call a friend who might have even the slightest clue about Audio/Video hook-ups, buy him a 6-pack and just muddle your way through it.
as for the manual, go to Kenwoods site and there should be a place to type in your model number. probably in 'support' section.

there is different ways to connect it, it depends on whether your reciever is digital surround sound, or an older analog surround av reciever. X-box has an optical digital output and left/right analog outputs. definately go and get the manual online, you can also get x-box manual online.

it looks like (i think you ment vr-355) the best way to hook up ur xbox is using the stereo left/right outputs from the xbox. white = left / red = right. otherwise you'll have to buy a seperate digital to analog converter.

Starting a movie theater?

There is no set limit on cost of a theater, it all depends on all the things in it - # of theaters, concessions, video games, valet, etc. As far as projectors go, it can not be a typical one, it has to be one specifically made for theaters.

Starting a movie theater?listen to opera

If you want to make a theater that people will actually attend, plan on spending somewhere in the millions. A little home-made theater won't get any business when they can just go to the giant multi-plex theaters that have full dolby surround sound and stadium style seating.

Besides, look up some information on how much movie companies charge theaters per copy of the movie... it's astounding!

i was only 6 but i can still remember the excitement of my dad taking me to a drive in, it was probably the cheap movie, to see it. it's an experience that i will keep with me alway's.
was a wonderful film on the big screen, but, when star wars came out in 77 that had to top them all in the era
Sure I remember seeing "Superman" when it came out. I thought it was ok. The music was impressive, but the story got boring when Clark Kent was a teen. After he becomes Superman, things were kinda mixed, part humor (thanks to Ned Beatty) and part action. I am not certain if I bought the ending or not but then again I was only 11.

Overall, it did not have a huge impact for me. I recall thinking "Star Wars" was a lot better and that "Flash Gordon" was a lot more fun. To be honest, I was more impressed with the sequel, "Superman II."
Compared to the latest movies with digital special effects? I would say that the 1979 Superman movie was crude or let's say remedial at best. But I was young then and I still remember that incredible feeling of amazement watching him fly on the screen, with John Williams' exhilarating soundtrack. It wasn't actually only the movie that makes it a memorable. It was also the viewer (me) who was a that time saving up coins for ticket, popcorn and coke on a summer vacation wanting to finally watch his favorite comic book hero on screen. Still got my superman comics under the bed. Summer day + boyhood fascination + superhero movie with crude special effects = one great childhood memory.

HDMI has an additional feature built into it that allows for control, but most people are not familiar with it. HDMI transmits Digital Video, Digital Audio, Control, and Auto Formatting when compliant products are connected. Here's basically what it means. LG, Panasonic, Pioneer, and Samsung at this point are the main brands that support this. If you put a DVD/CD into a compliant player and have the HDMI connected to the TV then the control feature takes over - Meaning when you hit play on the DVD the TV is activated as well. There may be a menu option in your DVD player to Deactivate this, but I'm not 100% sure on being able to deactivate it.

The HDMI cable is currently ahead of its time, but manufacturers haven't come up with a standard yet that all follow. I do training Nationally for Monster Cable and this has been a concern with some people. Some brands are doing one thing, and others do something else.

With HDMI connected between your devices, you will more than likely have to have the TV on at all times when using a DVD or CD.

Hope this helped. If you have more questions, feel free to email me through my profile, or take a look at my blog below for more answers.

Are there home theater DVD players that will play data DVDs?? If so, which ones?

The Curtis DVD1084 will play MP3s and DivX AVI movies off DVD-R. I'm sure there are many other players that do; look for a DVD player that supports DivX or MPEG-4 and MP3.

Check Stewart Beach in the City of Galveston. Last summer they did a drive in movie thing a few times. I don't have a link for you but it is ran by the City of Galveston Parks Board.

All the rest have been closed for years.
There have been some popping up out around the more rural areas. I was born in a small town outside of Houston called Porter and they've got a Starlight-In drive-in theater.
The closest drive in to us, Houston, is the one in Taylor County: Abilene (Taylor County) Texas

Drive-in: 915-677-9899, 2902 Vogel Street @ Mockingbird (near I-20).
This is not a travel question.

Long Island, NY.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_Theat...

This is the part that clinches it in my mind.

Dream Theater was formed in 1985 under the name "Majesty" by Petrucci, Myung, and Portnoy, while they were attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, before dropping out to help support the band.

Before they went by the official name of Dream Theater, they went by Majesty which did start in Boston. So, I'm still staying with NYC.

Am I incorrect in seeing that lovnrckt's post includes a link that notes that the band formed originally (under a different name) in Boston? Why did he put them in Long Island - besides the fact that's where they are now. Do people read things or just glance at them?

I would say originally, the band formed in Boston. That's were they met and intitially collaborated, which sounds like them becoming a band to me...
I think they come from Long Island, NY

no wait... now I'm just confused

I always thought they were from Long Island, but they formed in college.... but they went to college in Boston..... so i'm confused now... let me ask my DT obsessed friend

What is a theater?

A theatre is a place where performances are held. Ranging from huge traditional theatres with a large stage and red curtains, to a black box theatre with flexible seating/staging.

If you meant 'what is theatre?' then theatre really is anything with an audience. eg. a trial in a court, an argument in a shop, a lesson...

What is a theater?tickets

Shakespeare said"All the worlds a stage and all the men and women merely players." Theatre is not just on a stage, it is life all around. It is holding the mirror up to nature.(Hamlet, speech to the players)

A pronunciation with stress on the second syllable and the /e?/[ey] vowel: /θi?e?t?r/[thee-ey-ter] or sometimes /?θi?e?t?r/[thee-ey-ter] is characteristic chiefly of uneducated speech.

A place that is the setting for dramatic events.

A large geographic area in which military operations are coordinated: the European theater during World War II.

[Middle English theatre, from Old French, from Latin theātrum, from Greek theātron, from theāsthai, to watch, from theā, a viewing.]

Word History: Theories about the development of the theater in the West generally begin with Greek drama; this is etymologically appropriate as well as historically correct, since the words theory and theater are related through their Greek sources. The Greek ancestor of theater is theātron, "a place for seeing, especially for dramatic representation, theater." Theātron is derived from the verb theāsthai, "to gaze at, contemplate, view as spectators, especially in the theater," from theā, "a viewing." The Greek ancestor of theory is theōriā, which meant among other things "the sending of theōroi (state ambassadors sent to consult oracles or attend games)," "the act of being a spectator at the theater or games," "viewing," "contemplation by the mind," and "theory or speculation." The source of theōriā is theōros, "an envoy sent to consult an oracle, spectator," a compound of theā, "viewing," and -oros, "seeing." It is thus fitting to elaborate theories about culture while seeing a play in a theater.

theater

c.1374, "open air place in ancient times for viewing spectacles," from O.Fr. theatre (12c.), from L. theatrum, from Gk. theatron "theater," lit. "place for viewing," from theasthai "to behold" (cf. thea "a view," theates "spectator") + -tron, suffix denoting place. Meaning "building where plays are shown" (1577) was transferred to that of "plays, writing, production, the stage" (1668). Spelling with -re prevailed in Britain after c.1700, but Amer.Eng. retained or revived the older spelling in -er. Generic sense of "place of action" is from 1581; especially "region where war is being fought" (1914). Theatrical "pertaining to the theater" is recorded from 1558; in the sense of "stagy, histrionic" it is attested from 1709.

Do you have a Drive-in movie theater where you live and do you prefer it over the cinema theaters?

We have one here in Tampa and it is open 365 days of the year. They are too much fun to go to. Throw some chairs in the back of the truck and back in to a space. Get the chairs out and kick back and enjoy! Plus, if you drink beer , you can do it there and if you want a smoke, you can do that too! I love them and they are less expensive than the regular movies!

Yes, but I won't go to them. Going to small town ones when I was kid was great, but now...I'll just rent the DVD.

The only drive-in I go to now is the Sci Fi Drive In at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

There's one about 15 min. from my home, but it's not in the best neighborhood, so I've never been there.

I don't even go to the cinema theatres anymore; once/year max; ticket prices are ridiculous. We get NetFlix.
YES!

they're fun- they usually have double features, so you bring dinner, lawn chairs, blankets, and if you're old enough- a case of beer or wine. then you sit back and relax.

i saw transformers and the die hard film back to back and on a huge screen, i can say it was a really really great time.

i suppose it depends on the movie, too.
We used to, but they took them all out because of all the fighting and sneaking in. I loved going to them- it was a whole different sort of experience.
no
No Drive In's, just an open air auditorium with seats amphitheater like. These days the theaters are all in Malls and the tickets and snacks are so costly.
We have one (Northern California) it's open in the summer. I love it. A bunch of friends and I all go and it's always packed. They usually play older movies (Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's etc).
We have one, but it's only open in the summer. It shows movies that can be viewed by almost all, so nothing with extensive violence or nudity; because you can see the screen from the highway.

I really only go to see movies that don't have much depth, because you'll be distracted the whole time by cars and kids.

Any good musical theater ballad suggestions?

ok...i want to try out of the spring concert at our school but i have to pick a song...i really want a ballad from a musical but it can't be from rent, hairspray, wicked or anything that is too overdone...i am a first soprano but i don't want anything too high in case i get nervous or screw up the notes...does anyone have any suggestions?

Choose something from 'Parade' by Jason Robert Brown %26amp; Alfred Uhry. It's not overdone at all and its inherent sadness will leave 'em bawling. "You Don't Know This Man" is probably the best ballad. "My Child Will Forgive Me" is a real tear jerker but it ends with "And so I forgive you...JEW." You don't want that.

Any of Henry Krieger's musicals has great music. The Tap Dance Kid, is full of great undone songs. "Four Strikes Against Me", " My Luck Is Changing", or from "Side Show" try "You Should Be Loved".

Overwhelmed by home theater options?

Ok. So, I recently decided to get a new place. When I do, I want to buy all new stuff for my living room. However, I haven't bought any of this stuff in so long I have no idea what I'm doing. Here's what I want: a 50 inch or larger television, surround sound speakers, a DVD player, and sattellite radio.

My confusion starts right off the bat. I don't know if a plasma or LCD is the best type of television (all I care about is the best possible picture). I don't know what speakers are best. I have found several speakers systems that either come with a receiver or a DVD player, but at that point I don't know if I am better off buying everything seperate to get a better set of speakers, receiver, and DVD player.

In terms of DVD players, which is the best, HD or Blu Ray? Are there any specific reccomendations.

I am finding cables are important as well. Ay thoughts?

So far I have read a lot on CNET, but people complain about everything no matter what. I need help

Overwhelmed by home theater options?classical music

Here's my recommended system:

Panasonic TH-50PZ77U (1885 at Amazon)

Onkyo TX-SR705 ($599 at Amazon)

That equals to $2484. Leaving you $2516.

Speakers. Those you'll have to listen to all on your own. Audition Paradigms and RBH if you have a dealer nearby. For I.D. brands (Internet Direct) I recommend the Ascend Acoustics or Axioms. For subwoofers, the Epiks (though I have not heard them) are producing very impressive subwoofers at awesome prices. Check out the Hsu Research subs or SVS subs too.

Blu-ray players. The PS3 and the Panasonic BD30 are the only ones to really consider. There are some drawbacks to either so do some research. The BD30 has an "LFE bug." The PS3 does not bitstream nor decode DTS-MA and uses bluetooth instead of IR for the remote.

Anyway, I hope these suggestions help. Good luck.

Overwhelmed by home theater options?ms stress opera theater

If all you care is about the best possible picture I you want a TV not a projector then Plasma is what you want.

Best DVD would be blue-ray but then you cant watch HD-DVD. One of the best blue rays comes from Pioneer. If you want a HD-DVD/Blue Ray combo then get the LG.

Cables are important but should be comparible in quality to your equipment. Dont buy +$300 cable when you are using a home theater in a box solution that cost you $1,000.

Home theaters are complicated because there is so much out there. First forget about whats BEST because it all depends on how much you want to spend (Like a Car). If you want the best its going to cost you over a hundred thousand dollars to start. So pick a budget and stick to it. I do recommend you buy components and speakers sepertly appose to buying all in one units. It makes it more difficult and costly in the long run when you do want to upgrade.

I would help you more if you gave me your budget.
Well, I'm not going to be able to do more than provide some general suggestions, your question is just too broad for here.

First, you have to decide on budget and what you intend to watch / listen to.

For example if movies and HDTV, do you want Blu-ray or DVD (HD DVD is essentially dead). If so you need a 1080p display (and this could be a projector or a flatpanel TV). See the 1st link why an HD projector may be the way to go.

Your list of equipment didn't include a receiver/amp to power the surround speakers. Also, satellite radio is kind of off in left field .. nothing wrong with it, but it's unrelated to Home theatre. Also you talk about a DVD player and Blu-ray/HD DVD, but you need to decide which since the latter will play DVDs but a DVD player won't play Blu-Ray or HD DVD disks. Begin to see the problems?

The links (other than the first one) are to several on-line sites with basic guides on home theatre topics. I suggest you read them and come back with more specific questions once you have determined your basic constraints and preferences.

I would suggest you not consider this a fast process ... rushing will only end up in you not getting what you want/need or wasting money. Plan on taking at least a month or so to work through the options.

HD is much more complicated and less standardized than old time standard definition. The increased resolution is worth it, but it makes more demands on the consumer. Take your time and start with reading.
Plasma is the best picture quality. It is prone to burn-in, even with the newer technology, so don't play video games on it.

I've been staying out of the HD-DVD vs. BluRay battle until the format war is over. However it's starting to look like BluRay is winning. Just my opinion, no thumbs down please.

Generally speaking when it comes to any electronics, combos are not so good. Again, not putting down any specific device so no thumbs down please.

This is the paragraph that will earn the thumbs down. For cable, you'll what to use HDMI for the best video quality. Unlike other cables the signal is transmitted in digital, not analog format. Since the signal is digital it only needs to be able to transmit a 1 or 0 state and subtle state differences are not important. So what does all this mean? It means you don't need to spend a fortune on HDMI cables, it's a waste of money. For analog signals, sure cable matters, but not for digital. There are a lot of people out there that have wasted money buying the most expensive HDMI cables out there that will give me thumbs down for this comment. I don't care, they are only fooling themselves.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to recommend any specific devices because there are just too many options and I don't know what you situation is. Room size, shape, budget, etc.
I hear you bro.

First, do not get in a hurry.

As far as a TV, let your eyes decide. Do some shopping and take notes. I hear the DLP has the best picture.

For sound, you need to start with a quality AVR reciever such as Harman Kardon or Denon. Onkyo makes a pretty good AVR at a good price.

Next, you will need speakers. I will give you some links.

http://www.ascendacoustics.com/ I have the CBM 170 and they sound great!

http://show.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fdm.pl?...

http://www.hsuresearch.com/

http://www.magnepan.com/

http://www.affordableaudio.org/

This should be an enjoyable experience.

Most speakers can be auditioned in your home for 30 days.

Good luck!
Don't know if this will help but you can check it out if you lwant.

http://home-theater-guide.classes.cnet.c...
There are a lot of options - and as long as you stick with name brands, they all work well together.

I strongly suggest NOT buying a box system. Buy separates. Here is what I would do:

RECEIVER:

Yamaha or Denon. Both make Sat Radio compatible systems.

SPEAKERS:

Paradigm, Definitive Technology, Polk - all good names. Find a dealer and audition with music to pick your favorite.

SUBWOOFER

SVS Woofers or HSU Research (both are well-respected, internet companies). You DONT have to buy the same sub as the 5 speakers.

DVD PLAYER

Get a PS3 or BluRay. BluRay seems to be winning with more studios and companies signing up. (I own both HD and BluRay and neither one stands out so the 'winner' will be the format with more titles/support.)

CABLES:

Order most cables from BlueJeansCables. Buy a spool of 12 ga speaker wire from PartsExpress.com

TV:

A high-contrast ratio Plasma or LCD unit is what you should look for. Find a 1080p internal resolution with as many HDMI inputs as possible. Pioneer or Sony would be my main brand suggestions.

Is buying a theater system or surround sound good for gaming?performing arts

It's real fun to play games with surround sound. Gives you a better overall gaming experience.

Is buying a theater system or surround sound good for gaming?binoculars opera theater

Yes if you have HD and a surround sound it is amazing. Especially with COD4.
it would work with surround sound and it would make the game a bit better, but get a 1080p HDTV first, thats the ultimate upgrade
well it depends. what r u gonna use it for when u not playin the game?????
Most games 5.1 surround sound is good on 4 ps3 are war games (call of duty or any other) and racing games, you can hear competitors advancing on ya. For games like shooter, spy or racing and some others surround sound is more of a useful tool than for enjoyment, but they work hand in hand.
Playing on a surround sound system really helps you game play. In call of duty 4 you can hear where the gun shot are coming from (ie behind you to the side etc..). It also makes gaming a lot more fun. Get the sound system and you wont regret.

DO NOT use RCA cables (red white yellow) on a surround sound system. These cables only support 2.1. Use HDMI (if the reciever has it), or the best option is an Optical cable (which can be used on the PS2, PS3, 360, and probably xbox.

Assasins Creed is also awsome on a surround sound system. And it makes movies a lot more enjoyable too.

I would like to know to ... I found that on the web...

But I attached another web URL below with interesting discution on this album.

"... The song closes to Nicholas being startled, bumps something, then static noise. This leaves us with the ideas that the therapist was the reincarnation of Ed, and has killed Nicholas, like the same soul has 70 years earlier."
